Hoover-Regretting You-28904-PB-FT

Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike.

Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.

With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris—Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father, and the family anchor. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara.

While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see. With each passing day, new secrets, resentment, and misunderstandings make mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.

Excerpt

“What’s your favorite movie?”

“Of all time?” he asks.

“Pick one from the past ten years.”

“I can’t,” he says. “There are so many great ones, and I love them all for different reasons. I love the technical aspect of Birdman. I love the performances in Call Me by Your Name. Fantastic Mr. Fox is my favorite cartoon because Wes Anderson is a goddamn genius.” He glances at me. “What about you?”

“I don’t think Fantastic Mr. Fox counts. It seems older than ten years.” I lean my head back and stare up at the ceiling. It’s a tough question. “I’m like you. I don’t know that I have a favorite movie. I tend to judge more on the talent than the story line. I think Emma Stone is probably my favorite actress. And Adam Driver is the best actor of our time, but I don’t think he’s landed the role of his lifetime yet. He was great in BlacKkKlansman, but I’m not crazy about some of the other movies he’s been in.”

“But did you see the Kylo Ren skit?”

“Yes!” I say, sitting up. “On SNL? Oh my God, it was so funny.” I’m smiling, but I hate that I’m smiling. It feels weird to smile when I’m so full of sadness, but this is how Miller makes me feel every time I’m around him. He’s the only thing that seems to be able to take my mind off everything, yet he’s the one person I can’t really hang out with.

Thanks for that, Shelby.

It sucks. I don’t like thinking about it, even though we’re together right now. But tomorrow at school, things will go back to how they always are. Miller will keep his distance. He’ll respect his relationship with Shelby, which will only serve to make me respect him even more.

And I’ll just continue to be in a depressing funk.

“I should go,” I say.

Miller hesitates before moving. “Yeah, I think my break was over ten minutes ago.” We both stand up, but I can’t get out of the aisle because he’s blocking my way, facing me, not making an effort to walk away. He’s just staring down at me as if he wants to say something else. Or do something else.

“I’m really sorry about what happened,” he says. At first, I’m not sure what he’s talking about, but then it hits me. I press my lips together and nod, but I don’t say anything because it’s the last thing I want to talk or think about.

“I should have said that the other day. At the funeral.”

“It’s fine,” I say. “I’m fine. Or at least I’ll be fine. Eventually.” I sigh. “Hopefully.”

He’s staring at me like he wants to pull me in for a hug, and I really wish he would. But instead, he turns and walks out of the aisle, toward the exit. I stop at the restroom on our way out. He grabs a trash can and starts to pull it toward the theater we just came out of.

“See you tomorrow, Clara.”

I don’t tell him goodbye. I walk into the restroom and don’t even bother pretending things will be the same at school tomorrow as they were tonight. He’ll avoid me while being all faithful and shit, and whatever. That’s okay. I need to stop interacting with him anyway, because as good as it feels when I’m around him, it’s starting to hurt when I’m not. And I don’t need another painful thing added to my already existing pile of excruciating feelings.

I absolutely love everything that Colleen Hoover writes. Regretting You is story about a mother and daughter who go through some rough times but they learn to navigate through them together. This book is told in alternating POVs from a mother and her 17 year old daughter.

Morgan had her daughter at a very young age and she is determined to make sure Clara doesn’t make the same mistakes she did. Her overbearing ways make Clara rebel towards her and causes Clara to have a closer relationship with her dad and aunt Jenny. When tragedy strikes the family Clara doesn’t know how to deal with things and becomes even more distant from her mother. Morgan doesn’t handle it well and is struggling to find a new normal but knows she needs to pull it together for Clara. Will these two be able to rebuild their relationship and learn to lean on each other or will their life tragedy continue to push them apart?

I was so intrigued with the secondary stories that took place in the book and loved the outcome. The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. I loved the twisty, turny emotional rollercoaster this book took me on. I was also a young mother so I understood Morgan’s feelings and actions in some of the situations in the book. Colleen’s books are all so amazing and I can’t wait to see what she is working on next!!

Verity, an all-new romantic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, is available now!

Verity_Amazon_iBooks.jpg

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity likely didn’t intend for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of the night their family was forever altered.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

VERITY TEASER THREE.jpg

Excerpt:

“What are you wearing?” Corey is staring down at my shirt, perplexed, just now noticing it despite having spent the last fifteen minutes with me.

I look down at my oversized shirt. For a moment, I forgot how ridiculous I look. “I spilled coffee on my other shirt this morning and had to change.”

“Whose shirt is that?”

I shrug. “Probably yours. It was in my closet.”

“You left your house in that? There wasn’t something else you could have worn?”

“It doesn’t look high fashion?” I’m being sarcastic, but he doesn’t catch it.

He makes a face. “No. Is it supposed to?”

Such an ass. But he’s good in bed, like most assholes.

I’m actually relieved when the conference room door opens and a woman walks in. She’s followed, almost comically, by an older man walking so closely behind her, he bumps into the back of her when she stops.

“Goddammit, Barron,” I hear her mumble.

I almost smile at the idea of Goddammit Barron actually being his name.

Jeremy enters last. He gives me a small nod that goes unnoticed by everyone else.

The woman is dressed more appropriately than I am on my best day, with short black hair and lipstick so red, it’s a little jarring at nine thirty in the morning. She seems to be the one in charge as she reaches for Corey’s hand, and then mine, while Goddammit Barron looks on. “Amanda Thomas,” she says. “I’m an editor with Pantem Press. This is Barron Stephens, our lawyer, and Jeremy Crawford, our client.”

Jeremy and I shake hands, and he does a good job of pretending we didn’t share an extremely bizarre morning. He quietly takes the seat across from me. I try not to look at him, but it’s the only place my eyes seem to want to travel. I have no idea why I’m more curious about him than I am about this meeting.

Amanda pulls folders out of her briefcase and slides them in front of Corey and me.

“Thank you for meeting with us,” she says. “We don’t want to waste your time, so I’ll cut right to the chase. One of our authors is unable to fulfill a contract due to medical reasons, and we’re in search of a writer with experience in the same genre who may be interested in completing the three remaining books in her series.”

I glance at Jeremy, but his stoic expression doesn’t hint at his role in this meeting.

“Who is the author?” Corey asks.

“We’re happy to go over the details and terms with you, but we do ask that you sign the non-disclosure agreement. We would like to keep our author’s current situation out of the media.”

“Of course,” Corey says.

I acquiesce, but I say nothing as we both look over the forms and then sign them. Corey slides them back to Amanda.

“Her name is Verity Crawford,” she says. “I’m sure you’re familiar with her work.”

Corey stiffens as soon as they mention Verity’s name. Of course we’re familiar with her work. Everyone is. I hazard a glance in Jeremy’s direction. Is Verity his wife? They share a last name. He said downstairs that his wife is a writer. But why would he be in a meeting about her? A meeting she isn’t even here for?

“We’re familiar with the name,” Corey says, holding his cards close.

“Verity has a very successful series we would hate to see go unfinished,” Amanda continues. “Our goal is to bring in a writer who is willing to step in, finish the series, complete the book tours, press releases, and whatever else is normally required of Verity. We plan to put out a press release introducing the new co-writer while also preserving as much of Verity’s privacy as possible.”

I absolutely love everything that Colleen Hoover writes! Verity is way different than the romance novels she normally writes and is filled with suspense and some messed up situations. This book will have you on the edge of your seat the entire ride. This book does contain some sensitive subject matter so please read with caution.

Lowen Ashleigh gets the opportunity of a lifetime when she is asked to be the ghost writer for author Verity Crawford who was injured in a car accident and is not able to finish the book series she is working on. Verity’s husband Jeremy insists she stays with them so she can read through all of Verity’s notes so she can get started on the next book. She is absolutely shocked when she comes across an autobiography that Verity has written about her life that contains huge secrets that would tear Jeremy apart. Lowen suspects some crazy things are happening in the house but isn’t able to prove anything. Will she be able to get to the bottom of all the suspicious things happening or will she get spooked and decide to move out and move on with her life?

I loved the connection between Lowen and Jeremy. Their relationship starts in a messed up way at the beginning of the book but the strong attraction is hard to deny. Jeremy knows he should fight his feelings for Low since he is still married to Verity but he finds it very difficult to do. How will he feel about his wife when he finds out all the secrets she has been hiding?

This book contains so many messed up twists and turns that I couldn’t put it down. I’m thankful I read it during the day or I am certain I would have woken up in the middle of the night from a nightmare. I love that Colleen stepped out of her normal genre and I hope that we get more from the twisted side of her!

Blog Tour and Review-Keep Her Safe by K.A. Tucker

KEEP HER SAFE

 K.A. TUCKER

National Bestselling Author

Making a Murderer meets Scandal in this story of police corruption, family secrets, and illicit affairs from bestselling author K.A. Tucker, celebrated for her “propulsive plot twists and searing seduction” (USA TODAY).

Noah Marshall has known a privileged and comfortable life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that’s been rattling in her closet for years, and succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family’s life. Reeling with grief, Noah is forced to carry the burden of this shocking secret.

Gracie Richards wasn’t born in a trailer park, but after fourteen years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it’s all she knows anymore. At least here people don’t care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop, murdered in a drug deal gone wrong. Here, she and her mother are just another family struggling to survive…until a man who clearly doesn’t belong shows up on her doorstep.

Despite their differences, Noah and Gracie are searching for answers to the same questions, and together, they set out to uncover the truth about the Austin Police Department’s dark and messy past. But the scandal that emerges is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.

Complex, gritty, sexy, and thrilling, Keep Her Safe solidifies K.A. Tucker’s reputation as one of today’s most talented new voices in romantic suspense.

I absolutely love everything that K.A. Tucker writes. Keep Her Safe is a new standalone novel from K.A.. This book is filled with lots of drama, suspense, and a little bit of romance. This book is told in alternating POVs some from the past and some from the present which I really enjoyed.

Noah has always lived a pretty comfortable life as the son of the Austin police chief. He never expected his life would take such a turn until the night his mother commits suicide and his whole world is flipped upside down. He finds out his mother has been keeping secrets from him and now he needs to get to the bottom of everything and figure out what really happened to his mom’s old friend Abe Wilkes. He starts by getting in touch with Abe’s daughter Grace.

Grace’s world was flipped upside down when her dad was killed. Her mother couldn’t handle the news and used drugs to deal with it. Grace had to learn at a young age to take care of herself and her mother. When her old friend Noah comes back into her life things quickly take another turn. Together these two must work together to figure out what really happened to Grace’s dad and what caused the friendship between their parents to end.

I loved the connection between Noah and Grace. The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. I loved all the twists and turns this story took and all the emotions it brought our in me. It had me on the edge of my seat until the very end and I found myself not being able to put the book down. I can’t wait to see what K.A. is working on next!!

Review of Until It Fades by K.A. Tucker

ABOUT UNTIL IT FADES:

Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania (population three thousand outside of tourist season).

And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed date, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has rescued: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.

Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time.

But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. There’s an immediate connection, and it’s more electric than the bond of two people who endured a traumatic event. It’s something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something she is afraid to trust.

Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine…before the spark fades?

I absolutely love everything that K.A. Tucker writes. Until it Fades is a much lighter read than we normally get from K.A.. It is a standalone told from the female POV.

Catherine has been through so much in her life. A relationship she though was forever turned into a huge mistake and she was shunned from her family over it. She moves away and tries to start her life over. One night on her way home from a blind date gone wrong she comes upon a horrible accident. She saves one of the men and then hurries from the scene as she doesn’t want any media attention due to her past. She is quite surprised when the man she saved comes to her door and it’s professional hockey player Brett Madden. She is attracted to him but believes that someone like him would never want someone like her. She is also afraid that he will find out about her past and be sickened by it.

Brett Madden is so thankful to be alive and wants to find his savior. With a little bit of help he finds the woman who pulled him from the wreckage. He feels like he owes her everything. He doesn’t expect to find a wonderful woman like Catherine. The more time they spend together the more he feels like she is the one for him. He loves Catherine and her daughter and wants to give them a better life. Will these two people from two different worlds be able to be to make a relationship work and be happy together?

I loved the connection between Catherine and Brett. The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. This is a definite must read book! I can’t wait to see what K.A. is working on next.

I could write an awesome synopsis of All They Wanted. Tell you how you’re going to get more of Gunner and Ellie, Josh and Heather, and the oh-so-sexy Jeff and his outspoken bride, Ari, as they head out on a couples camping trip.

Never mind that both Ari and Heather are pregnant and moody. Or that Gunner forgot to bring the food … I mean really, Gunner? I could even tell you how Josh takes a tumble down a hill and—

Now you didn’t really think I was going to tell you what happens … did you?

I absolutely love everything that Kelly Elliott writes. I was so excited when she announced she was going to write a novella featuring the Wanted gang. It was so fun catching up with Ellie, Gunner, Jeff, Ari, Heather and Josh. The gang decides to go on a camping trip before Heather and Ari have their babies. Ari and Ellie have some fears that life will get busy soon and everyone will grow apart but this camping trip proves that their friendships will last forever no matter what happens in their lives.

I always loved how close these couples were and that they never let anything get between them. The camping trip starts out kind of rough but they try to make the best of it. They encounter some interesting situations during the trip and it keep me laughing the entire time. I love how Kelly also gives us a look into the future of the couples and their growing families. If you love the Wanted gang this is a definite must read novella!  I can’t wait to see what Kelly is working on next!!

Blog Tour and Review-Swear on this Life by Renee Carlino

swear-on-this-life-9781501105791_hr

ABOUT SWEAR ON THIS LIFE:

From USA TODAY bestselling author Renée Carlino (Before We Were Strangers), a warm and witty novel about a struggling writer who must come to grips with her past, present, and future after she discovers that she’s the inspiration for a pseudonymously published bestselling novel.
When a bestselling debut novel from mysterious author J. Colby becomes the literary event of the year, Emiline reads it reluctantly. As an adjunct writing instructor at UC San Diego with her own stalled literary career and a bumpy long-term relationship, Emiline isn’t thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of a young and gifted writer.
Yet from the very first page, Emiline is entranced by the story of Emerson and Jackson, two childhood best friends who fall in love and dream of a better life beyond the long dirt road that winds through their impoverished town in rural Ohio.
That’s because the novel is patterned on Emiline’s own dark and desperate childhood, which means that “J. Colby” must be Jase: the best friend and first love she hasn’t seen in over a decade. Far from being flattered that he wrote the novel from her perspective, Emiline is furious that he co-opted her painful past and took some dramatic creative liberties with the ending.
The only way she can put her mind at ease is to find and confront “J. Colby,” but is she prepared to learn the truth behind the fiction?

ALP SarahLReview Owl

I absolutely loved Swear on This Life by Renee Carlino. Renee has a way of pulling you in from the very beginning and not letting go until the very end. This is a beautiful story about two childhood friends that reconnect later in life in a very unusual way. This book does contain a love triangle so please read with caution.

Emiline and Jase grew up next door to each other. They both grew up with single parents and not with the most ideal living conditions. They were always there to support each other until one night when one of them goes through something horrible and ends up in foster care. Years go by and both Emiline and Jason move on with their lives and they never hear from each other again.

Emiline is now working on publishing a book and is working as an assistant professor of writing. She is struggling with her writing so her friend gives her a book by best-selling author J. Colby. As she begins to read the book she feels like she is reading her life story. She does some research on the author and soon realizes that it is her childhood love Jase. She can’t believe that he wrote and published a book about their childhood. She isn’t happy with some of the things he wrote in the book so she decides to go and confront him at a signing. What will happen when these two see each other for the first time in years? Will they still have the same spark they had all those years ago or will they both be happy with the current relationships they are in?

“We can’t always control our circumstances, who our parents are, where we live, or how much money we make, but in those rare moments when we can shape our fate, when we do have the power to make our own happiness, we can’t be scared to do it.”

I loved the deep connection between the two main characters. The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. I loved the emotional rollercoaster this story took me on. I can’t wait to see what Renee is working on next.

UP IN FLAMES

A Rosemary Beach Novel

ABBI GLINES

#1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines returns to Rosemary Beach one last time in this highly-anticipated finale and much beloved series.

Spoiled. Selfish. Rich girl. Villan. Slut.

As the Prada-clad bad girl of Rosemary Beach, Nan Dillon has been called every vile name under the hot summer sun. Some of her reputation is deserved—she’s never had to worry about anything but maintaining her perfect figure and splitting Daddy’s private jet with her brother, Rush.
But Nan is far from happy. Rush has another kid on the way and doesn’t have time to catch up with his sister. Grant, the last guy she truly cared about, chose to be with her half-sister, Harlow, instead of her. And Harlow, who has never gotten over the way Nan treated her when she first moved to town, remains distant.
So when Major asks her out, she jumps at the chance to date the gorgeous charmer. Though she doesn’t know much about the sweet-talking Texan, and though it’s clear he doesn’t want to be exclusive, dating him beats hanging out with vapid socialites or watching Netflix alone at home.
For a while, Nan deals with Major’s playboy ways, but after he burns her one too many times, she takes off for an impromptu wild weekend in Vegas. There, she meets Gannon, a darkly seductive and oh-so-dangerous businessman who knows exactly how to handle her.
With Major asking for a second chance and Gannon haunting her dreams, Nan has to decide who to give her heart to. But what she doesn’t realize is that these players are involved in a much bigger game—and they’re already two moves ahead of her.

ALP SarahLReview Owl

I have really enjoyed the Rosemary Beach series by Abbi Glines and am very sad that it has come to an end. I was very excited to have received an ARC of this book. I have been a #NanHater from the very first book and I was curious to see if Abbi could get me to change my mind about her.

Nan has always been the villain in this series and I was really hoping that she would redeem herself. If you have read the series, you know that she has never really felt loved and I was hoping she would finally find her HEA. Nan and Major were a mess from the very beginning and I never really felt a connection between them. He didn’t treat her very well and all she wanted was to feel loved and appreciated. When Gannon entered the story I was really hoping that there would be a deep connection between them but aside from a few dates most of their interaction took place in the bedroom. The best part of this story was seeing Blair and Nan getting along better and watching Nan interact with her nephew Nate. I was happy that Nan finally did end up finding her place in this world. Abbi didn’t turn me into a #NanLover but I am happy that she finally found love and happiness.

I really enjoyed this book even though I didn’t connect with the male main characters. I did love the twists and turns this story took. I was happy with the way Nan’s life turned out and loved seeing the way she interacted with Nate. Spotlight Review-Never Let You Go(Never Tear Us Apart #2) by Monica Murphy

NLYG

9e8ec-synopsis255b1255d

The second novel in this darkly sexy contemporary series from bestselling author Monica Murphy wraps up an emotionally powerful two-part tale of forbidden love.

The truth hurts, they say—and my pain cuts deep. While I was falling for Ethan, he was deceiving me the entire time. He held a huge secret, protected by his lies. When I discovered what he was hiding, the truth shook my world, threatening to ruin us forever. Ruin me. But I soon realized that what we share can’t be destroyed.

The connection between us is too strong. It always has been. I can’t deny him any longer. And I can’t deny my truth: I’m in love with Ethan.

I don’t want to let him go.

While we’re trying our best to make this relationship work, other forces are fighting against us. My family, who wants to keep me safe. The media obsessed with my tragic past. The public that feeds off of it. Even Ethan’s father—the man who nearly destroyed me all those years ago. He’s doing his best to finish the job.

Despite my love for Ethan, the doubts creep in, clouding my mind. Is he worth the pain? Will our love survive, or will we have no choice but to end it—end us—once and for all?

I absolutely love everything that Monica Murphy writes. Never Let You Go is the emotional conclusion to Never Tear Us Apart. This book picks up where the previous one left off with Katie being hurt by Ethan’s lies and betrayal. She has been trying to move on from her past for years and it always seems to keep coming back to haunt her. She knows that her and Ethan/Will are meant to be together but at what cost? Her family doesn’t approve of him and she is tired of disappointing them but she wants to an adult and live her life however she wants.

“I cry for what I’ve lost. I cry for what I’ve found.

“Ethan. Will. The boy of my past. The man of my future. The one I can never, ever let go.”
Ethan knows that he is probably the last person that Katie should be with but he can’t deny the way he feels about her. As much as he wants to let Katie go he knows he will never be happy if he does. Will these two ever be able to have a relationship together or will their pasts always continue to haunt them?

I loved the deep connection that Ethan/Will and Katie shared. True love always prevails even under the worst circumstances. I loved the emotional rollercoaster this book took me on. I loved that we got to read two different POVs throughout the book.  The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. I can’t wait to see what Monica is working on next!!

“W-where are we going?” she asked as she glanced over her shoulder.

Opening the laundry room door, I pulled her in and pushed her against the wall.

“I need to feel you, Paislie … taste you.”

Each breath was forced as the rush grew bigger. I’d been waiting for so long for this moment.

My hand slid up her dress and moved softly along her thigh where I brushed my knuckles across the thin lace material. Son-of-a-bitch. My cock was throbbing I wanted her so badly.

My fingers pushed the material to the side as Paislie lifted her leg, allowing me better access.

I slipped two fingers in and moaned as my dick hardened painfully more. “Fucking hell. You’re soaking wet.”

Her head dropped back as she whispered, “Please. Malcolm, I’ve waited so long for you.”

My lips moved along her neck, placing soft kisses as I slowly moved my fingers in and out of her. Sliding another one in, I moved faster. “Yes,” she hissed as she pumped her hips. I didn’t want her coming yet. The first time she came, it was either going to be on my cock or my tongue.

Pulling my fingers from her, Paislie let out a whimper. I lifted her up and set her on the counter. It was going to kill my leg, but I needed to taste her.

“Lay back, Paislie. I want to taste you … now.”

Her eyes widened with delight as she smiled and laid back. I lifted her beautiful gown and moaned when I saw the garter and panties.

“Jesus, you’re perfect,” I moaned as I pushed her panties out of the way and licked up her pussy. Paislie gasped and grabbed onto my hair.

“Oh … dear … God,” she panted.

I’ve given plenty of women oral sex, but this was different. So very different. Paislie tasted sweet, addictive, like a drug. I instantly craved more as I licked and sucked her more. Her body quivered and I knew she was close. All I would need to do is concentrate on her clit and push my fingers in.

The knock on the door had us both freezing. Paislie lifted her head as we looked at one another. She shook her head and mouthed, Are you fucking kidding me?

I absolutely love everything that Kelly Elliott writes. Adrenaline is the second book in Kelly’s Speed series. This book can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading Ignite first to get a better understanding of the characters.

Malcolm Wallace loves living life in the fast lane. He is one of the top NASCAR drivers in the world and has a chance at becoming #1 since his rival has recently retired from racing. There is nothing more that he loves in life than being out on the racetrack. He lost his one true love in a car accident back in high school and now puts everything he has into his career. He doesn’t think he will ever find love again so he just sleeps with countless women night after night. One afternoon while getting ready for a race he runs into Paislie who is there to watch the race with her boyfriend. He is immediately attracted to her and will do whatever it takes to spend more time with her. After one date with her he feels a pull towards her that he has never felt before.  Will the demons of his past continue to push everyone away or will Malcolm finally be able to let go of the past and move on with his life?

” Look into my eyes, Paislie. I’ve never felt like this about anyone.”

“That shit was not in the cards for me. Never has been….never will.”

Paislie Pruitt has gone through lots of heartache in her young life. Her mother died when she was young and her dad left her at an orphanage when she was just 9 years old. She is afraid to get to close to anyone as she is afraid they will leave her just like her dad did. She keeps herself busy with word and avoids men. Her best friend convinces her to go out one night and this is where she meets Trey. She takes him back to her place and they spend a wild night together. They start casually dating and he invites her to go to a NASCAR race with him. While at the race she runs face first into Malcolm and is immediately attracted to him. She finds out that Trey has another girlfriend so she breaks up with him. She decides to take Malcolm up on his offer for a date and the sparks fly. She doesn’t want to get to close to Malcolm because of his history with women but she can’t deny her feelings for him either. Will Paislie’s past continue to haunt her or will she decide to give a relationship with Malcolm a try?

“I haven’t slept with many men, but more than I should have at my age. I often wonder if I’m even capable of loving someone. If I let my heart open up to them, I have a fear they’re going to leave me like my father did.”

I loved the connection between Malcolm and Paislie. The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. I loved all the twists and turns this story took. I really enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster the book took me on. I can’t wait to see what Kelly is working on next.

Blog Tour/Review/Giveaway-Never Too Late by Sloan Johnson

Title: Never Too Late

Series: Home in the Heartland #1

Author: Sloan Johnson

Genre: Adult, M/M Romance

Published: March 7, 2016

NTL_Cover

Dax: My life ended six years ago. No, really. I was dead on the side of the road following a gruesome motorcycle accident. From what I’ve been told, it’s only because of one stubborn man that I have another chance to make something of my life. I no longer hate him for screwing up what I thought I wanted. I want to thank him. NEED to tell him what his actions mean to me.

Now, I’m headed back to the town I’ve never set foot in even though it’s a huge part of my life. I’m not thrilled about that, but the job offers haven’t exactly been flowing in. They’ll probably think I’m crazy, because there’s no way I won’t be able to look at every guy I walk past, wondering if he’s the one who saved me.

Michael: My entire life, I wanted to save lives. I’d earned a full-ride scholarship and had been accepted to med schools across the country. I was so close to making those dreams a reality until the night held a dying man in my arms. I’ve never been able to get the images of his lifeless body caked in mud out of my head. Even when the paramedics tried to take over trying to save him, I couldn’t let go. I never let go. Eventually, my guilt over not doing more cost me everything but my son. And now, I worry I’ll lose him if I don’t get it together.

I’ve often thought that if I could find him, maybe I could get some closure and finally get my life back on track. Now he’s here and I’m more of a mess than ever. Once the truth comes out, will he keep trying to save me or will he realize that it’s too late?

I love everything that Sloan Johnson writes. Never Too Late is the first book in a new series from Sloan. Sloan creates some of the sexiest male characters and writes some of the hottest M/M books I have ever read. This book proves that everyone can find love even in the most unlikely circumstances.

Dax’s life changed forever 6 years ago when he was in a horrible motorcycle accident. He wanted to end his life that night but thanks to an off duty EMT he lived and now has to figure out what to do with his life. He would love to someday find that man that saved his life and thank him for his second chance at life. He never thought he would go back to the town where he nearly lost his life but it’s the first place he finds a decent job. He moves into a crappy house that needs some work done to it so he goes to the hardware store to get a few supplies. He has no idea that little trip will be the beginning of a happier life for him.

Michael always loved saving people but that all changed the night he held a dying man in his arms. The guilt of not doing everything he could to save the man cost him everything but his son Jagger. He knows he needs to get his life together soon or he will lose him as well. He tries hard to be a good parent but Jagger is a very curious and ambitious little boy. One day when Jagger wanders away at the hardware store Michael is worried sick about him but is very thankful when a good looking stranger helps Jagger. He has never had feelings for another man but there is something about this man that has him questioning everything. Will meeting this stranger be the start of a new life for Michael and Jagger?

I loved the connection between Dax and Michael. The secondary characters added lots of depth to the storyline. I absolutely loved Jagger in this book. He really stole the show for me. The book ended way to quickly for me and I wish we would have gotten a look further into the future of these characters. I am hoping we will see more of them in the next book.

Exclusive Bonus Scene for use by: A Literary Perusal © Sloan Johnson 2016Jaggers Good Morning“Dad… daddy, wake up,” Jagger whispered. I groaned and scrubbed the sleep from my eyes. A sliver of light cut through the darkness of my bedroom. God, what time is it?

I reached for my phone and felt someone shifting behind me. That woke me up in a hurry. My eyes shot open and I saw my son standing on his tip toes to look over me. Busted.

“Hey buddy, why are you up so early?” I asked, trying to deflect his attention from the man in my bed. Unfortunately, once Jagger got his mind wrapped around something, he didn’t give up easily.

“Daddy, why is Dax sleeping with you?” he asked. I wanted to bat Dax’s hand away as his fingers curled around my hip, but that’d draw even more attention to the fact that I wasn’t sleeping alone.

Dax and I had talked about testing the waters with Jagger to see what he’d think about the two of us being together. We’d been planning to start today, in fact. But neither of us intended for Jagger to find out this way.

“Answer me, Daddy,” Jagger demanded. “Did Dax have a bad dream? He told me he has them sometimes.”

“He did, huh?” I asked. This could work. I could easily go with Jagger’s theory; tell him that Dax had indeed had a nightmare and that’s why he came in to sleep next to me. But I couldn’t. He might be young, but I refused to introduce the idea of Dax being something more than our friend from down the street by lying to him.

“Yeah,” Jagger confirmed. “He told me that one night when I had a bad dream. He told me that it’s okay because everyone has them sometimes. He said you probably do, too. Do you?”

“Sometimes,” I responded. The desire to roll over and kiss Dax was strong. He knew I worried that Jagger would wake up freaked out some night if I had a nightmare and found a way to explain it away ahead of time. He was a damn genius.

“So, is that why he’s in bed with you?” Jagger pressed.

“No buddy, he didn’t have a dream last night,” I told him. “Why don’t you go out to the living room and turn on cartoons?”

“Why can’t I watch them in here?” Jagger protested. I felt the bed shake and knew Dax was listening to our conversation and trying to stifle his laughter in the pillows. I pretended to stretch and elbowed him in the ribs. “We always watch cartoons on Saturday mornings.”

Either way, I was screwed. I could fight with him, force him to go to the living room, and have him in a shitty mood all day or I could give in and let him cuddle in between us. That felt twenty different shades of wrong, but why? He was used to curling up between us on the couch, even before anything was going on. And knowing that we weren’t alone in the house, we’d both put on shorts and T-shirts after showering the stench of sex off last night.

“Come on.” I sighed and held out my hands to him. It was a gamble, but if I wanted him to accept that I was with someone, with Dax, I couldn’t let him think there was something wrong with it.

“Yeah!” Jagger squealed as he bounced around on the bed. Dax groaned and doubled over, muttering for Jagger to watch where he jumped. Served him right after he failed to rescue me from trying, and failing, to explain why he was in my bed. “Dax, are you gonna stay in bed with us all day to watch cartoons? First, we watch Daniel Tiger, then Spiderman, then Curious George, then‑“

“Yeah, whatever you want, little man,” Dax groaned. He pulled the pillow over his head. Silly man had no clue that he was up for the day now.

Jagger yanked the pillow away from him and threw it to the floor. “You have to watch with me,” he insisted. “Daddy goes back to sleep because he works late at night, but you don’t. You were here with me.”

Dax pushed himself up and glared at me as I curled around my pillow. I had Jagger well trained. He fluffed the pillows behind his back and held out an arm for Jagger. “There, is that better?”

“Yeah, that’s good,” Jagger said gleefully. I was desperate to get a little more sleep, but I couldn’t stop worrying about whether or not we’d just totally screwed up my kid’s young mind. I’d almost managed to convince myself that he wasn’t going to require any further explanation when I heard him whisper to get Dax’s attention during a commercial break.

“Yeah buddy?” Dax responded, keeping his voice low as well.

“Why are you in my daddy’s bed?”

Dax took a few deep breaths. “Would it be okay with you if I tell you that I like your daddy?”

“Well duh, you’re best friends,” Jagger deadpanned. “Do you sleep with all your friends?”

I couldn’t hold back the snort of laughter. Dax cleared his throat and I sat up. He was right, this was something we needed to face together.

“No Jag, he doesn’t,” I responded. This was one of those times when an instruction manual would’ve been helpful. Then again, it probably wouldn’t have explained how to discuss having feelings for a man when you’d never considered yourself attracted to them in the past. Shit, this parenting stuff was hard. “You know how much I love you, right?”

“Yeah, you have to. You’re my dad,” Jagger responded, his eyes still fixated on the TV. I thought about turning it off, or at least muting it, but I couldn’t do that. His world was about to tilt and I wanted at least one thing to be normal for him.

“That’s true, but I’d love you anyway,” I promised him. “And Dax loves you, too.”

“He does?” At least something got a reaction out of Jagger. “Wait. Is this like that TV show Meemaw watches sometimes?”

“Which one?” Dax asked.

“The one with the two boys who love each other,” he clarified. Not that I had a problem with that tiny detail, but I did make a mental note to talk to Mom about what she was watching. “And they bought a baby because they couldn’t make one of their own. But they didn’t do a very good job shopping for one, because it doesn’t look anything like them.”

“Jagger Underwood!” I scolded. “You don’t say things like that.”

“What? She doesn’t. Not at all,” he defended himself innocently. “Wait, you guys aren’t going to buy a baby, too, are you?”

Somehow we’d gotten so far off the original subject that I couldn’t remember what in the hell we were talking about. Oh yeah, Dax being in my bed. At some point, we’d have to circle back to the topic of adoption versus black market baby purchases.

“No, Jagger. Dax and I aren’t going to buy a baby,” I reassured him. “But would you be okay if he’s here more?”

“Are you two going to kiss?” He scrunched up his face as if that was the most disgusting concept in the world. I’d have been offended, but he was at that age where he thought anyone kissing was gross.

“We might,” Dax responded bluntly. “But we’ll try to not do it in front of you.”

“Good.” Jagger settled back into Dax’s side and turned up the volume. “Does that mean you’re going to watch cartoons with me every weekend when Daddy’s still sleeping?”

“You bet,” Dax said with way too much enthusiasm. If I’d doubted what we were doing, those thoughts vanished as I watched the two of them negotiate the terms of Dax being allowed in my bed.

“And you promise you won’t buy a new baby?” Jagger pleaded.

“Not without talking to you about it first,” Dax promised him.

“Okay. Can we stop talking now? I’m missing my shows.”

Dax and I both laughed at the simplicity of a child’s mind. We’d been trying to go over all the different objections Jagger might’ve had, but it seemed he was fine with us being together as long as he got to watch cartoons and we didn’t buy a baby. I could deal with that.

Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s life. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.

When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.

Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?

Now, Sloan is a tattooed mom with a mohawk and two kids. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself with a good book and forget she has somewhere to be.
